The history of my profession comes from the watchful eye of a High School Art Professor. I was a teenager who spent whole afternoons drawing china comics. It was my passion. Maybe I started drawing before talking. Towards the 4th year of High School, the Art Professor took the class to visit the ISIA headquarters in Urbino, hoping to get me the idea that it was actually taken. I wanted to make graphics, practice all types of craft printing, draw. So at the 5th year I toured the High Schools of Graphics in Rome, where my family would soon be definitively transferred. I attended the IED, from 1980 to 1983., with great passion and enthusiasm. I was reported by the School to a graphics Studio. I ran away after two months looking for bigger challenges, to land in Saatchi & Saatchi where up until 2006 I grew learning everything I could, from ATL to BTL advertising, to end up with New Media Activities. I also made a baby. Then I chose to be free, freelance.
Take a look at my Resume here.
Jacques Sèguèla said "Learning is living. Knowing is dying ". I believe that these words contain the spirit with which I tackle each project. No project is equal to another, no product and no customer. Every experience and every advertising campaign is a new experience. I grew up in the Lovemarks Agency, I learned to become fond of products first, even when objectively they could "inspire" very little. I explored worlds in motion, worlds on paper and virtual worlds.
Graphic Design is what I'm really in love with today. I am always fascinated by the power with which a few signs can communicate a world. I'm from the old school: I do research, I study, I break down, I scribble, I analyze, I disassemble and I do scribbles and sketches until I am struck by the right intuition. Then I go to the computer. Today, unfortunately, we think that the computer contains within itself a universe of signs that are self-generated. I do not give up.
I started drawing before talking, as I have already written. At IED I was very tempted to specialize in illustration. Other prevailed. The first years of work I did a lot of visualizing, then over time the Agency absorbed my energy and I didn't cultivate this art. In the last decade I have made many vector illustrations. For a couple of years I have taken back hand drawing, mainly hyperrealism with graphite, something is published here too.
After my Communications & Graphic Design Degree in 1983 I started working in Saatchi & Saatchi Rome as Visualizer and AD Assistant. I did not really know if I preferred being AD or Illustrator. It took a few months to forget Illustration.
As in 2007 I started working as a freelancer I had the chance to work more on small graphic design - little projects. I can't put all on this site, but let me tell you that I LOVE those posters using lettering. Find them in the PORTFOLIO section.
One more opportunity from being a freelancer is owning my time to do things. I re-discovered my old passion of drawing again after so many years. I love hyper realistic Black And White Portraits but also painting, oil, watercolor. Next winter I'll start some oil painting again. Stay tuned to see. In the meantime, if you think you'll like some drawing stuff from me, don't hesitate to ask.
